Unlike classroom-only courses, our training takes place using your own evacuation chair and, wherever possible, on the staircases within your building. This gives learners the opportunity to practise in the environment where they may one day need to use the equipment.
Every participant has the opportunity to develop practical skills under the guidance of an experienced instructor, helping to build confidence as well as competence.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is evacuation chair training mandatory? Anyone expected to operate an evacuation chair should be competent and confident in using the equipment. IOSH has advised that a brief manufacturer demonstration or simply watching an instructional video would not normally be sufficient on its own. Can evacuation chair training be delivered at our premises? Yes. On-site training is usually the most effective option because your staff learn using your own evacuation chair, staircase and working environment. How many people are needed to operate an evacuation chair? Many evacuation chairs are designed to be operated by one trained person. However, additional assistance may be appropriate depending on the chair model, the building layout, the needs of the passenger and the circumstances of the evacuation. Your trainer can discuss the safest and most practical approach during the course. Can Fire Warden training be combined with evacuation chair training? Yes. We regularly combine the two subjects into a single training session. As both courses contain important practical and theoretical content, the combined programme normally takes approximately five hours. How long does the training take? Evacuation chair training typically takes between two and three hours, depending on the number of delegates attending and the amount of practical training required. |
