Our practical Evacuation Chair Training course is designed to give nominated staff the knowledge, confidence and practical skills needed to assist with the safe evacuation of people who are unable to use the stairs during an emergency.
Training is delivered at your premises using your own evacuation chair wherever possible, allowing learners to practise in the environment where they would be expected to use the equipment.

Are There Any Prerequisites?
No previous experience is required.
The course assumes no prior knowledge of evacuation chairs, although delegates should be familiar with their own workplace and emergency evacuation procedures.
Where organisations already have Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPs) or local fire procedures, these can be discussed during the training to help ensure the practical exercises reflect normal workplace arrangements.

Most courses are completed in approximately two to three hours.

Maximum Learner Numbers
To ensure every participant receives practical instruction and individual assessment, we recommend a maximum of six learners per course.

Our instructors can deliver training on all major makes and models of evacuation chair. If your organisation uses more than one type of chair, training can usually be adapted to cover the equipment available on site. Every delegate has the opportunity to take part in practical exercises using the evacuation chair.

Throughout the course the instructor continually observes each learner's practical performance.
Assessment covers the safe preparation, operation and storage of the evacuation chair together with safe working practices throughout the practical exercises.
The aim is to ensure delegates leave the course with the confidence to operate the chair safely should the need ever arise.
Certification
Delegates who successfully complete the practical assessment receive a Castle Hill Training certificate.
Certificates are valid for one year.
Because evacuation chairs are emergency equipment that may remain unused for long periods, regular refresher training is recommended to help maintain confidence and practical competence.
Accessibility and Physical Considerations
Operating an evacuation chair involves practical activity, including moving equipment and controlling the chair during stair descent.
